Scholarship

This scholarship is to support access to higher education for any person who is a care leaver or has experience of being in care.

If you have a student loan, scholarships can either go towards the cost of your tuition fees or maintenance costs. They are awarded following an application process.

Eligibility

You’ll need to be:

– A care leaver* or care experienced

– Under the age of 25

– Have a Home fee status

– Holding an offer for:

  • Business and Management
  • Computer Science
  • Global Design Engineering
  • Engineering with Artificial Intelligence
  • Engineering with Mechatronics Systems
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering

– In receipt of a student loan or self-funding your studies.

*A care leaver is someone aged 25 and under who has spent time in local authority care (such as foster care, or residential children’s homes). A care leaver will be eligible for support from the local authority’s Leaving Care Team once they turn 18 and will be currently supported by a local authority when they enrol in Higher Education.

How to apply

You’ll need to provide evidence of your care experience. This could be a letter from your Local Authority confirming your care leaver status, or a letter from a GP, social worker, care experienced support service or other professional person from the local authority in which you were looked after.

How much could I be awarded?

£3,000 per year of study

This scholarship will be offered on a rolling basis to eligible applicants.
