Professor Rosca joined ASU London from Ashesi University in Ghana, where she spent a decade teaching in the engineering department and working on different projects with local and global impact.
She started the Biological Engineering Program at Ashesi University and mentored the award-winning Ashesi iGEM team, the first West African student team to participate in the International Genetic Engineered Machines competition (iGEM), in Paris. She holds a PhD in Bioengineering from Arizona State University, alongside degrees in Microbiology and Mathematics, and completed postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University.
Her research career spans multiple aspects of cancer research, from developing novel therapies to imaging cancer at King’s College London and at University of Hull. Elena is passionate about bringing research into the classroom and helping students see the relevance of their learning in research and developing new solutions to global problems.
Professor Rosca is a student-centered educator, known for pioneering authentic, project-based assessment in engineering mathematics and other engineering courses. Elena has developed several courses that are driven by project- and problem-based learning, and she always strives to bring the relevance and application of learning into the classroom. She is the founder of three biotech ventures focused on low-resource healthcare and environmental sustainability in West Africa. She brings this same drive for accessible, real-world engineering education to ASU London’s project-based curriculum.
